5 bold predictions for Seattle Seahawks in 2020

Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks desperately want to regain control of the NFC West in 2020. Does Russell Wilson have enough help to make that dream a reality?

Pete Carroll piloted the Seahawks to a solid 11-win campaign in 2019, but that wasn’t good enough to put serious heat on the 49ers for the NFC West crown. Seattle will need to make the jump from good to great to make that happen in 2020.

It looks like the Seahawks will have to make that jump without the services of Jadeveon Clowney. They still have interest in re-signing him, but it’s going to be difficult for the franchise to give him the money he’s looking for. That puts a huge amount of pressure on free agency signing Bruce Irvin to fill his shoes. The good news is that elsewhere, the defense looks pretty strong.

Offensively things in Seattle still begin with Russell Wilson at the quarterback position. The addition of Greg Olsen will give him a valuable safety net at the tight end position. That should take some pressure off Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf in the passing game.

The big question for the Seahawks is whether or not they can continue to dominate close games like they did a season ago. They won 11 games but their expected win total was just 8.2. Some of that can be attributed to Wilson’s efficiency. Some of it has to be chalked up to pure luck.

The Seahawks need lots to go right to topple San Francisco. The outcome of the following five bold predictions could tell the story for Seattle.

5. DeeJay Dallas will find a meaningful role

Dallas isn’t going to grab a ton of carries in his rookie season, but his versatility gives him a shot to earn a lot of meaningful snaps on third down. His ability to run a diverse route tree out of the offensive backfield is going to earn Wilson’s trust early on.

Look for him to make some sneaky big plays for the Seahawks this year.
