The Bengals offense should be awesome with Joe Burrow, Tee Higgins

The Cincinnati Bengals’ offense looks to be in great shape after they followed up the selection of Joe Burrow first overall with Tee Higgins at 33.

After doing the inevitable and selecting Joe Burrow to be their franchise quarterback, the Cincinnati Bengals immediately gave him another weapon on day two of the 2020 NFL Draft by drafting Clemson receiver Tee Higgins.

Burrow and Higgins were playing on opposite sides during the National Championship back in January, but together they should prove a potent combination for a Bengals offense not short on talent.

The first overall pick is known for his excellent ball placement, but the addition of Higgins and his massive catch radius should allow the odd inaccurate pass from Burrow to be rewarded with a completion.

Higgins possesses the body control to consistently adjust to off-target throws and the exciting thing for the Bengals is that, in A.J. Green, they have a veteran receiver who has made his name by doing exactly the same thing in the pros.

Much will depend on whether Green — who missed all of last season because of torn ligaments in his ankle — stays healthy in 2020, what will be his age-32 season.

Should he succeed in doing so, then opposing defenses will have to pick their poison, with Tyler Boyd giving Burrow another dependable target who is coming off his second consecutive 1,000-yard campaign.

Throw in what should be a dynamic running game led by Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard, and the Bengals offense figures to be very difficult to slow down.

Tight end looks to be a weak spot among the skill position group, while much of the Bengals’ success will depend on the performance of what has been a dismal offensive line, though one that gets Jonah Williams back at left tackle in 2020.

Cincinnati has a long way to go to climb the mountain in the AFC North coming off last year’s 2-14 season. It would be unrealistic to expect a seamless transition for Burrow as he makes the jump to the NFL given the protection issues that have blighted the Bengals.

However, he is a quarterback with the pocket presence and mobility to overcome such problems. The Bengals’ additions may not immediately translate to wins in 2020 but, with the supporting cast Cincinnati has around Burrow, the offense should at least be exciting to watch.
