Jerry Jeudy declares for NFL Draft: Alabama WR should be Top-10 pick

NCAA Football, NFL Draft

One of the top prospects in what looks to be a loaded wide receiver class, if not the No. 1 prospect at the position, Jerry Jeudy has officially declared for the 2020 NFL Draft.

Alabama is building a legacy of highly drafted and highly regarded NFL wide receivers, with Julio Jones, Amari Cooper and Calvin Ridley. Jerry Jeudy is in line to join them, and on Saturday the junior wide receiver announced he will forgo his final year of eligibility and declare for the 2020 draft.

The final game of Jeudy’s college career was a nice one, as he had six catches for a career-high 204 yards and a touchdown against Michigan in the Citrus Bowl. He finished his junior season with 77 receptions for 1,163 yards and 10 touchdowns. As a sophomore in 2018, he had 68 catches for 1,315 yards (19.3 yards per catch) and 14 touchdowns on his way to winning the Biletnikoff Award.

As players officially declare to join those will graduate, the wide receiver class looks loaded for the 2020 draft. But Jeudy is regarded as the best and most complete receiver out a good current group at Alabama, and he has a real chance to be the first wide receiver to go off the board somewhere in top-10 overall come April.

Jeudy’s ball skills are of the type more typically associated with bigger receivers than he is, at 6-foot-1 and 192 pounds, and his prowess as a route runner is sure to translate well to the next level. That being said his workout numbers and 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine late next month will be closely watched and scrutinized, and there will be hot-take evaluations out there if he happens to run slower than expected or not nail the three-cone drill.

But NFL teams will be able to see a good football player no matter what, since “tape don’t lie”, and if Jeudy happens to fall out of the top-10 someone stands to get a relative value.
