Eagles’ Zach Brown released after a rough 24 hours

Philadelphia Eagles

Linebacker Zach Brown got shown up by Kirk Cousins, and one day later, the Philadelphia Eagles have decided to release him.

Life comes at you fast, especially when your mouth writes checks your play can’t cash.

Just ask former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Zach Brown, who was released by the team on Monday. The move caps off a rough 24 hours or so for Brown, who was likely one of the driving forces behind Philly’s 38-20 loss to the Minnesota Vikings over the weekend.

Three days ago, Brown called Kirk Cousins the “weakest part” of the Minnesota’s offense. The Vikings quarterback then proceeded to torch Brown and the Eagles’ D for 333 yards and four touchdowns in the win on Sunday.

The very next day, ESPN‘s Adam Schefter reported the team was releasing Brown, with several teams expected to express interest.

In less than a week, Brown ran his mouth about his ex-Washington Redskins teammate, got lit up by said teammate in a loss, and was subsequently cut.

As the kids like to say nowadays: You hate to see it.

While Brown isn’t wrong about the Vikings focusing on establishing the ground game this season, the last thing you want to do is give any starting quarterback in this league bulletin board material, especially since Brown’s Eagles were only 3-2 themselves heading into this matchup.

Cousins hadn’t been great this season by any means, recording only five touchdowns and two interceptions heading into this Week 6 matchup. Unfortunately, Brown’s words seemed to be the exact spark Captain Kirk needed, as he beamed up four touchdowns to just one interception on Sunday, completing 22 of his 29 passes for a season-high 333 yards.

Brown understandably didn’t want to answer any questions about Cousins after the game, but that’s the least of his worries now. We’ll see where he ends up next, but he should probably think about keeping his criticism of ex-teammates to a minimum unless the plans on backing it up and not embarrassing his own team in the process.
