Patrick Mahomes’ second quarter was legendary (Video)

Kansas City Chiefs

Just when it seemed like Patrick Mahomes couldn’t possibly be any more ridiculous, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback goes ahead and redefines greatness at the position.

The Oakland Raiders were riding high after Derek Carr’s masterpiece against the rival Denver Broncos in Week 1, but they were in for a rude awakening against a much better AFC West team – led by an infinitely better quarterback – in the Kansas City Chiefs.

Although the Raiders started the game brightly with a 10-0 lead after the first quarter, Patrick Mahomes absolutely broke the Oakland defense in response. Mahomes put on a clinic, dropping four touchdowns in a 28-0 fourth quarter to give the Chiefs a commanding 28-10 on the road at halftime.

This was his first touchdown to breakout candidate Demarcus Robinson.

Here’s a touchdown pass to rookie Mecole Hardman on third-and-20.

How about a score to the reliable Travis Kelce?

And another to Robinson for good measure.

How on earth does any NFL team defend the dimes Mahomes is throwing?

In total, Mahomes had 278 passing yards and four touchdowns in one freaking quarter of football, against a Raiders team that was riding high after a big win over Denver and a perfect first quarter this Sunday.

All it took was 15 minutes for Mahomes to destroy Oakland, put the ball back in Kansas City’s court, and put in a quarter of play that would match (or exceed) a solid game of football for the majority of other franchise quarterbacks in the NFL.

Next: Lamar Jackson’s Week 1 was no fluke

Mahomes is truly on another level compared to everyone else in the league, and Jon Gruden’s Raiders simply didn’t have a chance.

Overall, Mahomes had 313 passing yards with those four scores – and no picks – in the first half, averaging a whopping 12 yards per attempt. In addition to his two receiving touchdowns, Robinson was the high man with 144 receiving yards on just five receptions, catching all five Mahomes targets thrown his way.
