2019 NFL mock draft: Kyler Murray, Nick Bosa kick things off

NFL Mock Draft

With the 2019 NFL Draft a single day away, here’s how NFL reporter Matt Verderame sees the first round shaking out for each team.

Kyler Murray

QB, Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are hitting the reset button after doing that a year ago. This time, Kliff Kingsbury is taking over as the third head coach for the franchise in as many years, and he’s bringing in his quarterback of choice.

Kyler Murray decided to skip out on baseball in favor of football, and the decision will lead to riches in the desert. Murray won the Heisman Trophy in 2018 with the Oklahoma Sooners. While there are questions around his height (he was “measured” at 5-foot-10, but there are many who believe he’s really 5-9) and build, nobody questions his arm talent or athleticism. Arizona needs to finally settle on a franchise quarterback, and Murray appears to be its guy.

Nick Bosa

DE, San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have an easy choice. While Nick Bosa dealt with some injury issues at Ohio State, his production and NFL-level traits (his father and brother were both first-round picks) make him an obvious choice at No. 2. Bosa should be an immediate impact player much like his brother Joey has been for the Los Angeles Chargers.

The former Buckeye star will slot in across from Dee Ford, who San Francisco got in trade in March for a 2020 second-round pick. The duo, combined with the emerging talent of DeForest Buckner and some decent depth (Arik Armstead and Solomon Thomas), should provide the 49ers with a terrific foundation moving forward.
