Cowboys are called out by Cole Beasley as liars

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys insist they offered Cole Beasley a reasonable contract in free agency. The wide receiver disagrees. That means someone is lying.

Cole Beasley was a very solid receiver for Dak Prescott last season. That caused many people to be surprised when Beasley opted to leave for the Bills via free agency. If you’re inclined to believe the player, the reason he left Dallas was pretty simple.

Cowboys’ VP Stephen Jones told USA Today that the team “made a run” at Beasley before he headed to Buffalo. The 29-year-old wideout tells a different story. In response to the report he simply urged his Twitter followers to “ask them (the Cowboys) when.”

There really are no losers here since Beasley was able to cash in with a four-year, $29 million deal with the Bills. The Cowboys responded by inking Randall Cobb to a one-year deal to become their new starter in the slot. Time will tell whether or not Cobb can turn back the clock and give Dallas the same production he gave the Packers in his prime.

It’s still very strange for a player and front office to have such different versions of what went on. No matter how you slice it, someone is lying about how things went down. Beasley doesn’t really have a motive to speak out negatively since he’s being paid handsomely by the Bills. The Cowboys’ only motivation for claiming they made a contract offer to Beasley that they didn’t would be to placate some fans upset about his departure.

In reality, it’s impossible to know who’s telling the truth here. The most likely reality is that the real story lies in the middle of these two drastically different versions. It’s in everyone’s best interest to make it water under the bridge at this juncture. Beasley has a new team and the Cowboys have a new receiver to take his spot in the starting lineup.
