2019 NFL Draft: 5 players Buccaneers could take in Round 1

NFL, NFL Draft, NFL Mock Draft, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Head coach Bruce Arians is ready to turn things around in Tampa Bay. To do that, the Buccaneers need to draft one of these five guys in Round 1.

Bruce Arians’ arrival in Tampa Bay is going to give the Buccaneers a much different feel this season. The organization still needs more talent if they’re going to contend for an NFC South title. That means Arians and company have to get this year’s draft right to accelerate the rebuild.

The biggest question Arians has to answer is whether or not he believes Jameis Winston is the right quarterback to lead the Buccaneers into a more successful future. He’s got the physical talent to make all the throws necessary in the NFL, but his mental acumen is a huge question mark. Expect the Tampa Bay front office to take a long look at the possibility of drafting a new quarterback with the No. 5 selection.

Unfortunately for Arians, his roster has plenty of other holes to fill as well. The truth is the Buccaneers could go in a lot of different directions with this pick. It could easily boil down to Tampa Bay simply selecting the best player available. Here are five who could come off the board for the Buccaneers on Day 1.

5. Jonah Williams

The Buccaneers were able to retain Donovan Smith in free agency but it’s still possible they’ll look for an upgrade at the tackle position. The call between Jonah Williams, Tawaan Taylor and Andre Dillard was close here, but Williams is the safest pick.

Some scouts are concerned as to whether or not he can hold up at tackle at the next level. On the off chance he can’t stay outside, he’s got the strength to kick in and become an above-average guard immediately. That versatility will make him an intriguing selection for Arians and his coaching staff.
