Will Nick Foles stay in the NFC East?

It looks like Nick Foles is leaving the Philadelphia Eagles. But will the postseason hero go to another team in the NFC East?

The Philadelphia Eagles wasted no time in stating that Carson Wentz would be their starting quarterback in 2019. The announcement essentially confirmed their parting with Nick Foles, the backup quarterback who led them to a Super Bowl win last year and another trip to the playoffs this year.

With a 4-2 record in the postseason, Foles is expected to be one of the most coveted quarterback prospects this offseason. But his next destination might not be too far from home.

Foles has already stated that he wants to be a starter.

“I would love to lead a team,” Foles stated at the end of the season. “The starter thing, leading a team, impacting a locker room… that’s why we play the game, to impact people, to create an atmosphere… I’m really starting to understand how I want to play this game. My game has changed, seeing what’s important and really just being myself.”

There aren’t too many teams looking for a starter in 2019. But two of the teams that are happen to be in the NFC East: the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants.

The Washington Redskins will be in a tricky situation at the quarterback position. They are still paying off Alex Smith, but the latest updates suggest that he won’t be ready to start in 2019, if he ever plays again.

Still, Washington won’t have a lot of spare money in their budget. And if Foles gets traded rather than entering free agency, the Eagles will be hesitant to make such a trade with a division rival.

They won’t be eager to trade with the Giants, either. And according to Eli Manning’s agent, he will probably return as the starter in 2019.

That rules Foles out if he insists on being a starter, but Giants GM Dave Gettleman refused to give a solid answer on Manning’s status in his post-season press conference.

Nick Foles is an attractive candidate for any team looking for a 2019 starter. He has a Super Bowl ring and a solid postseason record. He is able to step into big moments and get the job done. For the Redskins and the Giants, a quarterback of that caliber would be a godsend.
