Cowboys get bonus motivation in the form of Eagles Grugier-Hill’s trash talk

Philadelphia Eagles

Trash talk is an integral part of professional sports. But what Kamu Grugier-Hill said may have been so bold that it motivates the wrong team.

Heading into an enormous divisional showdown that may very well decide the NFC East, trash talk from the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys was to be expected. It would’ve come as no surprise to hear it from someone like Cowboys defensive end Demarcus Lawrence, who had some strong words about the New Orleans Saints before stifling them last Thursday night.

But instead, it came from Eagles’ linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill. “I mean, if you look at Dallas’ history, they always choke,” the 24-year-old told NBC Sports Philadelphia. “So we’ll go down there and make them choke.”

That’s a pretty audacious comment for a linebacker who’s best known for his kicking skills.

To be fair, these comments could very well ignite a flame for the Eagles, who will already be fighting for their playoff lives on Sunday afternoon. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that a players’ motivational trash talk proved invaluable. The Eagles have won two games in a row to creep back towards .500, but they came against the lowly New York Giants and the battered Washington Redskins. And neither victory was very convincing.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys have arguably been the hottest team in football for the past month, winners of four in a row. Ironically enough, they kicked off that win streak about a month ago with a win over these very Eagles — on the road in Philadelphia as a 7.5-point underdog.

The Cowboys will see what Grugier-Hill said. And, without a doubt, head coach Jason Garrett will immediately make it bulletin-board material. The Cowboys are riding high, coming off of arguably the most impressive single-game performance in the NFL this season. They now get to play host to the defending Super Bowl champs with a chance to essentially lock up the division.

You can bet they’ll be fired up and ready to come out swinging on Sunday afternoon. And they won’t forget what Grugier-Hill said, either.
