Only Nick Foles can beat Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors on the championship stage.
Kevin Durant grabbed his second straight Finals MVP award this year. But his performance in a four-game sweep over the Cleveland Cavaliers was nothing compared to the legend Nick Foles.
The Eagles quarterback took home Best Championship Performance at the ESPYs on Wednesday. Foles beat out Villanova star Donte DiVincenzo, Houston Astros outfielder George Springer and Durant. The Warriors small forward won the award last year.
If the other nominees were Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, Durant definitely would have won again.
Foles was obviously the correct choice here. He not only defeated Tom Brady in the Super Bowl, he did it without the help of three other All-Stars. Foles, who started the season as the Eagles backup, was a truly took the hardest road in 2017-18.
The Super Bowl 52 MVP threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns against the New England Patriots. He also caught a touchdown pass in one of the most memorable plays in Super Bowl history.
In his acceptance speech, Foles said that he couldn’t have done it without his coaches and teammates. He also thanked the Philadelphia fans for “bringing the passion every single day.” Unlike Warriors fans, who bring the passion when the team is up 20, but otherwise sit nervously wondering why they aren’t up 20 yet.
With this ESPY win, Foles now has more Best Championship Performance ESPYs than Steph Curry and the same amount of Finals MVPs. Congratulations to the most beloved man in Philadelphia behind Green Man.
