Tamba Hali is latest Patrick Mahomes hype man (Video)

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs believe Patrick Mahomes is going to be special. Former outside linebacker and teammate Tamba Hali is singing a similar tune.

Kansas City hasn’t been able to draft and develop a superstar quarterback since… ever. The Chiefs signed Len Dawson as a washout, traded for Joe Montana and Trent Green, and acquired Alex Smith from the San Francisco 49ers at the dawn of the Andy Reid era in 2013.

However, that narrative might finally be changing. In 2017, the Chiefs traded up 17 spots to take Patrick Mahomes, who looked the part and then some in his lone rookie start against the Denver Broncos in Week 17. The youngster was making no-look throws and dropping dimes between three defenders while on the run.

On Wednesday, Tamba Hali spent time on the set of Good Morning Football and talked about his belief in Mahomes. The future team Hall of Famer mentioned that Mahomes was looking off Eric Berry and Marcus Peters routinely in practice. He also compared Mahomes to Brett Favre, something many believe is accurate due to style and arm strength.

If Mahomes turns out to be Favre, the Chiefs will find themselves in championship contention for the next 15 years. Few quarterbacks have ever come into the league surrounded by so many weapons, ranging from Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins to Travis Kelce and last year’s rushing champion, Kareem Hunt. Factor in Andy Reid on the sidelines, and Mahomes is set up to succeed.

His trial by fire will come early in the season, with three road games over the first four weeks. Kansas City will travel to take on the Los Angeles Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers before hosting the San Francisco 49ers at Arrowhead Stadium. In Week 4, Mahomes goes back to Denver for a Monday night affair with the Broncos.
