Police have reportedly found the dead body of a 25-year-old man in the basement of New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins.
Monday evening has taken a strange and horrific turn in the world of the NFL. As reported on SI.com, the dead body of 25-year-old Roosevelt Rene was found in the home of NFL star Janoris Jenkins. Jenkins was selected in the second round in 2012 by the then-St. Louis Rams before signing a massive deal for the New York Giants. He also made second-team All Pro in 2016.
But of course, a story such as this goes well beyond football. To this point, everything is pure speculation and we should all wait for the details to surface before jumping to conclusions. Admittedly, though, this is never a look you want a player in any sport to take on. The Aaron Hernandez case is far too recent of a memory for NFL fans right now.
As for information gathered so far, Rene is being described as a friend to the family. Police believe his death was caused by strangulation or suffocation. Jenkins himself is currently in Florida while the Giants await the start of training camp.
Dianna Russini of ESPN tweeted some follow-up details to the initial story, including reports of who might have been staying in Jenkins’ house:
As well, Jenkins apparently would prefer to return home to find out more about what has transpired, but the team is asking for him to stay put for the time being.
Nothing more than that has been released at this time, and again let’s not get ahead of ourselves as to what actually happened or who is to blame. Any number of circumstances could have led to this, so we will leave it at only what we know before delving further.
Be sure to check back as the details emerge..
